INTERIOR MINISTER DENIES POLICE ATTACK ON ASANKRANGWA RESIDENTS

Story By : SIR RICH

Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery has described as palpable false a purported police attack on residents of Asankrangwa in the Amenfi West Constituency on 7th May, 2021.

Reports had gone viral that some police personnel had attacked residents of the town for an unknown reason, which action the MP for Amenfi West, Hon. Eric Afful had described as an affront to national peace and security.

He went ahead to raise the issue in Parliament demanding justifiable answers from the Honorable Minister of Interior. Hon. Ambrose Dery explained it was rather four Senior National Security Officials who had gone to Asankrangwa to arrest six Chinese Nationals for illegal mining and trading of gold without license.

MP Eric Afful also demanded the whereabouts of  undisclosed quantities of gold and an amount of 3 million Ghana Cedis from the Culprits. But, Hon. Ambrose Dery further directed the Amenfi West MP to formally lodge a complaint for the police to launch investigations into the matter and respond appropriately.

During the said operation by the National Security Operatives on 7th May, 2021, a journalist, Peter Tabiri, who witnessed the operation was allegedly brutalized by the National Security Operatives to the pulp.

He is subsequently living with a hearing impairment but has still not got any compensation for his predicament. He is therefore appealing to the Minister of Interior to intercede on his behalf.
