The Forestry Commission Board Chair, Tetreete Okuamoah Sekyim II would soon  meet the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor  over the invasion of Galamsyers in Tano Nimire Forest Reserve.

This follows a press conference by the National Chairman of Timber Workers Union, Mr Mark Ofori Asante, who fears Samatex Timber and Plywood Company Limited would collapse due to the invasion and destruction of Tano Nimire Forest by illegal miners, popularly known as ‘galamseyers’.

In the said press conference Mr Mark Ofori Asante said the forest reserves and plantation managed by Samatex Timber and Plywood Company Limited and other companies were being destroyed for mining.

He has thus charged the Forestry Commission Board Chair who doubles as the Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area to engage the Forestry Commission in Wassa Asankragua for first hand  information.

The Chief and the Board Chair expressed saddest moments in his speech after he was briefed by the destruction of the illegal miners.

He said, he will meet the sector minister to find a permanent solution to the phenomenon. In the interim, he called on the youth to keep calm as he is driving hard to resolve the issue.
