A seminar to court women involvement towards the implementation of nature based solutions for environmental conservation in Wassa Amenfi has been held at Asankrangwa in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.
Sponsors and organizers are unhappy about the wanton destruction of natural forests in Wassa Amenfi East. Central and West in the Western Region, and in the Bosome Freho and Bosomtwi Districts, of the Ashanti Region.
The seminar, among others, is being sponsored by the World University Service of Canada(WUSC), international Union for the Conservation of Nature(IUCN), ABANTU for Development, GUELP University of Canada, with CODESULT NETWORK, as the Ghanaian Partner. Speaking on the essence and benefits of women involvement in providing Nature Based Solutions(NBS), for environmental protection, Mrs. Dorcas Owusu Agyei, IUCN National Coordinator for NBS Project, lamented at the seeming nonchalant societal attitudes of all Ghanaians towards environmental care. She said national environment conservation is a shared responsibility. Working with governments, business organizations and scientific experts, IUCN, seeks to unravel the complexities of global threats, and develop innovative solutions for the conservation of nature and the sustainable use of natural resources.
She explained that the seminar was to help equip and improve their leadership in climate change adaptation through nature based solutions, increase investments in nature based solutions with income potential for women and biodiversity benefits, and increase gender-responsive restoration of degraded forests and key habits.
Nature based climate adaptation in the Guinean forests of Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, And Guinea are of utmost priority to the respective governments and international partners. IUCN's Dorcas Owusu Agyei has therefore called for increased governmental investments and support for environmental conservation.
