His Excellency Bobi Wine Writes.
Uganda:
This here is the 'DOOR OF NO RETURN'. During the days of slave trade, this is the last door that our people went through before they were boarded onto the slave ships destined for America and other destinations.
No one of my skin colour ever went through this door and was ever seen again or ever saw home again.
This is on a small island in Dakar Senegal where the Europeans would stock their slave merchandise before shipment.
Walking through these miserable cells and prisons where o ly the finest and strongest of our men, women and children were confined for months before being sent into slavery in foreign lands and listening to the narration of the guide is one of the most emotional moments of my life. To imagine that this went on for hundreds of years is just sickening.
I could imagine the cries and wails of our ancestors.
That I personally went through the once greatly feared door of no return and came back again and again just to prove that it's no longer the so called door of no return, was another reminder that just like slavery, colonialism, apartheid and all other institutional evils, dictatorships also fall and indeed will fall.
It's just a matter of time.
Our people have gone through worse in history and they still overcame. We too shall overcome.
