Today on Wednesday history, we learn about JACOB WILLSON SEY
Ghana 🇬🇭,Nigeria 🇳🇬 and Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 would’ve been owned by the BRITISH forever has it not been Jacob Willson.
JACOB WILLSON SEY(10 March 1832 – 22 May 1902), also known as Kwaa Bonyi born in a small village (BIRIWA) in the Central region of Ghana 🇬🇭 and was a Fante artisan, Farmer, Carpenter, Philanthropist, nationalist and the first recorded indigenous multi-millionaire on the Gold Coast (present-day Ghana).
Jacob Willson is man who used his wealth to boot 🥾 for boot 🥾 with the British and claim our land back for us. This man came across Gold nuggets in the farm that worth over £200 billion pounds today. Between 1894 and 1897, the British passed three bills that will let them own Gold Coast (Ghana) land forever. It was Jacob Willson an illiterate man, who realized that there was something wrong with the bill passed by the British, so he decided to use all his wealth to fight against the bill passed.
Jacob Willson Sey, came together with some educated elites and they formed (ABORIGINES RIGHT PROTECTION SOCIETY) and their goal was to fight the bill. They came up with a petition that was signed by 15 Chiefs and they decided to send it to the Queen 👸 in England 🏴.
Jacob Willson hired a very big ship 🚢 called (ALBA SHIP) and then selected a few people including (EDWARD F HUNT) from Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 and they embark on a journey to DOWNING STREET and they met with (JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN) the State secretary, he then handed the letter to (QUEEN 👸 VICTORIA).
Queen Victoria 👸 had no option but to her approval. The land bill was cancelled. The letter didn’t only fight for Ghana 🇬🇭 but Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 and Nigeria 🇳🇬 who were all under British rule.
