On Thursday, July 7, 2022, Hon George Mireku Dukar, on behalf of Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, led a delegation including the Zambian Minister of Mines & Minerals Development, Hon. Paul C. C. Kabuswe and his entourage to launch the Asunafo and Asamang-Tamfoe Community Mining Schemes in the  Atiwa  West  and East District respectively in the Eastern Region. 


The Asunafo and Asamang-Tamfoe community mining schemes is expected to create 5,000 and 2,000 direct jobs respectively. 


The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Acheampong in his remarks expressed his profound gratitude to the President, a proud native of the region, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the community mining scheme which will create jobs for the teeming youth through sustainable mining. 


He tasked the management and staff to strictly adhere to the safety practices and standard operational procedures as outlined by the Minerals and Mining Regulations, 2012 L. I. 2182 and the Small-Scale & Community Mining Operational Manual.


He sounded a word of caution to the management of the scheme, not to engage foreign nationals in any circumstance and reiterated that, small-scale mining is for Ghanaians only as established by section 83 of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, Act 703. 


The Zambian delegation, led by Hon. Paul Kabuswe, Zambian Minister for Mines and Development visit to Ghana is purposely to acquaint themselves with the modules of Ghana's Gold Mining Sector mostly, the Small-Scale mining.


Taking advantage of the launching of the schemes, Hon. Paul Kabuswe commended the policy  framework and assured the Durbar that, his country will adopt the community mining module and other best practices from Ghana.


Sudan, South Africa and Liberia have been in the country earlier to study Ghana's Mining Sector and Zambia is here to do same.


This is an indication of how government’s effort to make the mining sector attractive and sustainable this gaining momentum across the continent.

He urged all to commit to the Government's vision of Green and sustainable Mining


The Chiefs in their remarks, assured Government of their unflinching support to ensure sustainable mining.






Together, we shall sanitize the small-scale mining industry.
