General Secretary of Timber And Wood Workers Union -TWU
The wanton destruction of waters bodies, Cocoa farms and plantations kept for posterity by illegal miners continues at Amenfi West, Aowin and other places in the Western and Western North Regions of Ghana with no seeming solution.
Mark Ofori Asante is very angry at the recent invasion of the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve and Plantation in the Aowin Municipality by some illegal miners who have no mercy in the perpetuation of their nefarious activities against the environment.
Being managed and preserved by Samartex Timber and Plywood Company Limited, the Tanonumr3 Forest Reserve is being destroyed by some illegal miners backed by undisclosed 'People in Government', a practice which is an affront to President Akufo Addo's efforts at preserving our natural reserves and resources for the national good.
Apart from the protection of plant and animal species, harboring of sacred sites, forest reserves also serve as a Reservoir of Medicinal Plants.
Backed by forest lovers and well meaning citizens of Samreboi and Wasa Amenfi in general, Mark Ofori Asante is calling on President Akufo Addo to personally intervene in the preservation of the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve and plantation.
