AMENFI EAST MUNICIPAL - WASSA AFRANSIE GETS POLICE STATION

The Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere-Darko Mensah, on Thursday, 21st July, 2022, commissioned Wassa Afransie Police Station.

According to the regional minister, the Afransie police station will help reduce the recent rampant attacks on residents of Wassa Afransie and it's environs.

The police station consist of two police cells, charge office, ammunition room, station officer's office, CID office and six water closest toilet facility.



He added that the police station will serve communities like; Wassa Nyamebekyere, Juokwaa, Asuogya Krobo, Wassa Henmang, Mpatasie, Abrokyire Krobo, Adesu and other nearby communities in Wassa Amenfi East.

Speaking in an interview with wassaman insider newspaper, Nana Mua Gyaafo ll, the chief of Wassa Afransie said the project was initiated in 2012 by the community and the traditional leaders due to lack of police station and high crime rate in the area.

He said, the traditional leaders aimed at constructing police bungalow to accommodate police officers who will be posted to the area but due to financial constraints, the project got futile.

According to Nana Mua Gyaafo II, the construction of the police station formed part of his social responsibilities to ensure that inhabitants in the area are fully protected from criminal activities.

The Chief stated that, his community, Wassa Afransie and several other towns in the Wassa Amenfi East municipal of the Western Region are living in fear over frequent armed robbery attacks.


The Chief of Wassa Afransie who doubles as 'Nsafuahene' for Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Nana Mua Gyaafo ll, has called for support from philanthropist, IGP, NGOs and the government to support the community to construct police bungalow to accommodate the police officers. 

After Nana's Appeal, the regional minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere-Darko Mensah, supported Afransie Community with Two Hundred (200) Bags of Cement and amount of Two Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh¢2000).

The Member of Parliament for Amenfi East Constituency, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, also supported the project with Two Thousand Ghana Cedis and a brand new motor bicycle to wassa afransie police.

Finally, the Amenfi East Municipal headed by Hon. Frederick Korankye promised that the assembly will also support in all kinds to complete the project.
