The Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Teteret3 Okuamoah Sekyim II has criticised the ongoing illegal mining in the Tano nimire Forest in Aowin , Totoa, Bora and other forest reserves in Wasa Amenfi.
He is unhappy that insatiable greed and the desire for selfish gains by some Ghanaians and the seemingly challenging law enforcement regime has resulted in the wanton destruction of the nation's forest.
Speaking at a press conference at Samreboi , Omanhene TETRETE promised to help resolve this trend. Some Farmers and residents of Samreboi are fearful of sporadic brandishing of guns plus timely gunshots by supposed security operatives of Akonta Mines, which has invaded the Tanonumr3 Forest Reserve.
The company, which is believed to be owned by NPP Chairman Wontumi has no mercy for trees and the natural forest reserve, manned by Samartex Timber and Plywood Company Limited.
There is growing tension among some residents and the over 3000 Samartex workers whose source of livelihood is under threat by the invasion of Akonta Mines in the Tano nimire Forest with impunity. Omanhene TETRETE OKUAMOAH SEKYIM II, who doubles as the Chair of the Forestry Commission is promising a Personal mission to help flush out illegal miners from the country's forest reserves and Plantations.
