Story by: Apibire Major
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Garu, Mr. Musah Osman, has inaugurated a three-unit classroom block valued at 229,792 Ghana cedis for the Zaar-Zuah Primary School in the Garu District of the Upper East Region with a call on the school authorities to ensure the proper management of the facility.
The DCE, who charged both pupils and teachers to protect the facility, said the project was in line with the government's agenda to provide quality education at zero or minimum cost at various stages of the educational level.
According to him, his outfit has constructed and handed over classroom blocks to over ten basic schools in the district, adding that the previous government neglected the plight of the people in those areas. Mr. Osman said the massive investment in provision of classroom blocks is aimed at eliminating school under trees in the area.
He said Zaar-Zuah basic school was under the trees, which the assembly and for that matter government decided to provide them with a befitting classroom block.
He said measures are in place to eliminate all schools under trees and also make basic school education accessible to about nine communities in the district which still struggle to have access to basic school education.
The Assembly Member for Zaare Electoral Area, Mr. Mahama Kasum, on behalf of the community thanked government for the gesture.
He appealed to government provide the community with Junior High School to ease the pressure on the existing ones. He was equally worried over the situation whereby pupils in the area travel long distance to access JHS education.
In the headteacher of the Zaar-Zuah Primary School's message, Mr. Joshua Issaka Awinbugre, applauded government for providing the school with a befitting classroom block, adding that the issues of merging pupils in different levels of their education in the same class is now a thing of the past.
He charged parents to invest in their wards especially the girl-child in terms of provision of learning materials to enable them pursue their careers and become a responsible adults in future.
A representative of Asa'ataba Women Group in Zaar-Zuah community, Madam Akima Ateek, described the poor food caterers in the school serve the kids as unacceptable.
She appealed to the Garu District directorate of education and the school management committee (SMC) to expose the canker.
