A Vibrant communication member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Prestea Hunivally constituency within the Western Region, Nicholas Ofori Ackah has defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
At a press conference organized at the Bogoso roman Paris hall indicated that
"Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, and fellow citizens of Prestea Huni Valley Constituency, I stand before you with lots of excitement. Today, I address you not as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but as a a proud member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
First and foremost, let me express my gratitude to all those who have supported me throughout my time as a communication team member of the NDC. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you and work alongside you in the pursuit of a better Ghana. The NDC has been an integral part of my political life, and I will forever cherish the memories and experiences I have gained within the party.
However, today, I stand before you as a man who has undergone a journey of self-reflection and introspection. I have spent countless hours contemplating the future of our great nation and the best way for me to contribute to its progress. It is with great humility and sincerity that I announce my decision to defect from the NDC and join the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
I understand that this decision may come as a shock to many of you, and some may even question my motives and integrity. Allow me to reassure you that this decision was not taken lightly. It is a result of careful consideration and a desire to align my political beliefs and values with a party that I believe can best serve the interests of our constituency and our nation.
I want to use this platform to render an unqualified apology to the former MP, Hon Francis Adu Blay Koffie for the things I said about him just to make way for another NDC member to take the parliamentary candidacy from him during the parliamentary primaries in 2015.
My biggest apology also goes to Hon Barbara Oteng Gyasie. In fact, during the 2016 electioneering campaign, I said a lot about this woman which were untrue. The idea was to make sure that her dream of becoming an MP was shuttered, but what God has planned, no man can destroy it. Unfortunately for me and the NDC, she won the 2016 elections, but the insults continued unabated till she lost the 2020 elections to the NDC.
I have regretted my actions against her. I stand here today to render an unqualified apology to her to forgive me of everything I have done against her today.
The Bible says in 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all uniquities”. I have confessed, Lawyer Barbara Oteng Gyasie, please forgive me. Consider me as the prodigal son and accept me into your bosom.
I have come to realize that my values and beliefs are no longer in alignment with those of the NDC. As a Ghanaian, I believe that our constituency deserves the best leadership possible. We need leaders who are dedicated, honest, and who have the best interests of the constituency at heart.
Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that the NDC, as a party, no longer embodies these values.
Over the years, I have watched as the NDC has become involved in numerous scandals and controversies. From corruption allegations to mismanagement of the country's resources, the NDC has consistently failed to live up to the expectations of Prestea Huni Valley Constituents. As a communication team member, it was my duty to defend the party and its actions, but I have found it increasingly difficult to do so in good faith.
The NPP on the other hand has demonstrated a commitment to good governance, economic stability, and social progress. Their policies and initiatives have led to significant improvements in various sectors of our economy, including agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. I firmly believe that by joining the NPP, I can play a more significant role in contributing to the realization of our shared vision for a prosperous and inclusive Prestea Huni Valley and Ghana as a whole.
I have been impressed with the leadership of the NPP. The party has shown a commitment to the development of Prestea Huni Valley, and has made significant strides in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure under the transformative leadership of Lawyer Barbara Oteng Gyasie and Hon Dasmani. The NPP has also shown a willingness to listen to the concerns of constituents. These are the qualities that I believe are necessary for the growth and prosperity of our country.
While I acknowledge the achievements of the NDC in the past and the contributions they have made to our democracy, I believe that change is necessary for progress in the constituency and I will urge NPP delegates to give Lawyer Barbara Oteng Gyasie the nod as the parliamentary candidate of the Party in the 2024 elections to bring back that transformational leadership and development we have lost.
The NPP offers a fresh perspective and a renewed commitment to address the challenges we face as a nation. It is imperative that we go beyond political affiliations and work together in the best interest of our constituents.
To my fellow communication team members of the NDC, I urge you to understand and respect my decision. Our political differences should not divide us, but rather serve as a catalyst for healthy debates and constructive dialogue. I implore you to continue your noble efforts in advancing the cause of the NDC, as I firmly believe that a vibrant multi-party democracy is crucial for the development and prosperity of our constituency.
To the members of the NPP, I express my gratitude for welcoming me into your fold. I am excited about the new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. I promise to work tirelessly, shoulder to shoulder with you, in the pursuit of our shared vision for a better Ghana. Together, we can build a constituency that is prosperous, united, and truly representative of the hopes and dreams of our people".
