A citizen vigilante from Amenfi Central in the Western Region, Obed Anowi has filed an application under the right to information Act. 2019, Act 989,, requesting for information from the Amenfi Central District Assembly on the construction of new teachers quarters bungalow at the assembly premises and near the District Electoral Commission office.
Pursuant to Section 23(1) of Act 989, Obed Anowi, is demanding among others, whether the contract award is either a District Assembly Project or a Government of Ghana (GoG) Project, name of contractor or contracting company, the contract sum to be paid to the contractor and the date of contract award. Obed Anowi wants to know the date of contract award, mode of contracting of the project, either via sole sourcing or competitive rendering, plus the total amount of money paid the the contractor initially , source of funding for the project, and the scope of work or service.
The letter sighted by this writer is addressed the Amenfi Central District Information Director at Manso Amenfi, where the district office is situate. Dated 22nd May, 2024, Citizen Vigilante, Obed Anowi, who wants answers to be sent to him through his email, amissahobed@gmail.com, says his action is to help ensure due diligence and accountability in the award of government or district assembly contracts in the Amenfi Central District.
His letter is copied to the Amenfi Central District Chief Executive, District Coordinating Director, District Finance Officer, District Engineer and the Chairman, Sub Committee on works. The Amenfi Central District Assembly is yet to respond to Citizen Vigilante, Obed Anowi's request through its District Information Director.
