Nomadic herdsmen living within the Kopella and Zeogo suburbs of Binaba in the Bawku West District in the Upper East Region are living in fear, with some secretly seeking shelter in the homes of native of the area to avoid being attacked.
This follows the alleged butchering and raping of a 23 year old woman by an unknown man, believed to be nomadic herdsman. The entire nomadic community, popularly referred to as Fulani community, has been burnt to ashes by angry youth of the two communities after an early down sexual attack and near killing of a young woman.
The said woman who is a native of Zeogo was heading towards the forest to pick shear nuts.
According reports, a man she suspects to be Fulani approached and demanded for sex which the woman rejected. After a long struggle with the woman, the man butchered her severely and eventually had his way.
The victim was initially reported dead due to the long comma and severe bleeding but she later revived and currently receiving treatment at the Zebilla District Hospital.
Apart from the Fulani homes been burnt to ashes, all the Fulani fraternity who were in Binaba market after the news broke were chased away by natives.
Reports indicates that even the police were not spared when they made attempts to arrest the rampaging youth at the market.
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Zebilla Constituency, Hon Ebenezer Ndebilla Alumire through the party's Constituency secretary donated an undisclosed amount to support the victim to settle her medical bills. He further charged leadership of fulani community in the Bawku West District to school their colleagues on the essence of moral living.
It could be recalled that a similar incident occurred in the Nabdam District some few years ago and therefore all Fulani descendants were chased away by natives. In the Bongo District, their houses were burnt to ashes some couple of months ago due to their nefarious activities.
