"I come to lead a united and educated Wassa Amenfi to propel development", Hon. Ignatius Akwasi Afrifa has declared when submitting his nomination forms as an unopposed candidate at the party's Amenfi West Constituency office at Asankrangwa. Though Akwasi Afrifa is contesting the Amenfi West Parliamentary Seat, his vision spans the whole of Wassa Amenfi.
He comes to battle incumbent NDC MP, Honorable Eric Afful, whose party has given him the mandate to contest his second term bid. The NPP has since democratic rule from 1992 not been able to occupy the Amenfi West Parliamentary Seat.
The party only won a by election with former MP, Hon. Agnes Sonful in 2002 when then NDC MP, Honorable Abraham Kofi Asante resigned from parliament.
The NPP has since then launched an onslaught on the Amenfi West Seat but to no avail. Npp hierarchy and faithfuls are hopeful that Candidate AKWASI AFRIFA would do the magic for the elephant party.
This writer gathers that the NDC however remains resolute and devising new strategies to retain the seat. The story has just began.
